Helen Chournos (Harper)

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend Helen Harper passed away at the home she loved May 18, 2007 in a house fire .

Born March 4 1944 to Nick and Dorothy Churnous, the youngest of six children. In high school she developed a love of music that she carried throughout her life. Mom played the saxaphone and sang in the choir. She also sang in many performing groups. At the time of her death she was serving as ward organist, a calling that she dearly loved.

Mom married her high school sweatheart, Carl Harper Oct 9 1961 in Ely Nevada, later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple.

She went back to school after raising four children and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Utah State University with a degree in nursing and continued her education by graduating from the University of Utah as a Physician's Assistant. She worked for many years providing health care for others including her family.

Service was important to mom. She and Dad served as workers in the Logan Temple. After retiring as a health care provider she much of her time sewing and assembling items for humanitarian work and she always had a leper bandage to crochet close at hand and spent a lot of time making things for those in need.

Moms family was very important to her. She was proud of her children and grandchildren and their acomplishments. She never forgot a birthday. Her love of music, education and the gospel is a legacy that will continue to bless us.

She is servived by her husband and sweatheart, Carl, four children, Michelle (Brad) Bagley, Denice (Lan) Turner, Marcellus (Chihiro) Harper,Nick (Jeanne) Harper and fourteen grandchildren, sister Cherri (Jr.) Lish and two brothers, Sam (janice)  and George (Kumeroa). She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Monte and Johnny.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 24 2007, 11 a.m. at the Roy 27th Ward, 3776 W. 5375 S.  Friends and family may visit on Wednesday, May 23rd at the church from 6-8 p.m. or preceding the funeral Thursday at 10 a.m.  Internment will be in the Tremonton Cemetery at aproximatley 2 p.m.
