Biography

Arnold James "Jim" Larson, age 69, passed away on October 5, 2013 surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on July 21, 1944 to Arnold Wilford Larson and Lottie May Spencer Larson. He spent his childhood years on the family dairy farm in Garland, Utah, where he developed a love for horses and farming. He was extremely close to his parents, siblings, and extended family. He left the farm, but the farm never left him.
On June 17, 1966 he married his high school sweetheart Julie Ann Rose in the Logan, Utah, LDS Temple. Together they raised five children and enjoyed fourteen grandchildren. He was so much fun. He enjoyed boating, yearly trips to Bear Lake, late nights playing games, golfing with his boys, traveling with Julie and their good friends, and much more. He often said his family was his greatest joy.
Jim graduated from Bear River High School in 1962 and Utah State University in 1968. He attained his Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification and initially worked for the State of California and Deloitte and Company. He later joined the Sorenson companies where he worked for 30 years as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer of the Sorenson Legacy Foundation. He received the Utah State University College of Business Professional Achievement Award in 2005 for his extraordinary career and community leadership. His loyalty, honesty, and hard-working nature were frequently noted by his co-workers. He loved managing the White Sage Ranch and Farms in Kanosh, Utah. They became part of him as he worked alongside the cowboys and farmers in rounding up the cattle and plowing the fields. He was in the saddle at every opportunity.
Jim lived a life of service. He was a leader, but a quiet leader. His gentle unassuming manner endeared him to people in all walks of life. He served in the Western Canadian mission and fulfilled many church callings including Bishop of the North Canyon Sixth Ward and President of the Bountiful Utah North Canyon Stake. Faith in Jesus Christ was at the core of his actions.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife Julie Ann. He made her life so good. He is also survived by his five children: Marci (Marc) Modersitzki, Michelle (Joel) Wilson, Marisa (Judson) Wall, Michael (Jen) Larson, and Matt (Caroline) Larson, 14 adoring grandchildren, siblings Jerry W (Jan) Larson and Linda (Jim) Carter, and sisters-in-law Karen Larson and LeVae (Kip) Heiner. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Bruce DeLyn and Brent Lyle Larson.

Funeral Service

Wednesday October 9, 2013, 11:00 at Foothill Ward BuildingFuneral services and viewings will be held at the North Salt Lake Stake Center, 900 South Eaglepoint Drive. Viewing times will be held on Tuesday, October 8, between 5:30 and 8:30 p.m., and Wednesday, October 9, between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on October 9. Interment will be at the Garland Cemetery.
